03/05/05Merlion Homes helps first time buyer onto property ladder
Merlion Homes is offering first time buyers a chance to climb onto the property ladder by offering brand new apartments for as little as £112,750 at Basildon House its new development on Southampton Street in Reading.

With the help of the Merlion Assisted Purchasing Scheme (MAPS) a shared equity plan unique to Merlion, homeowners who might not normally aspire to such a lifestyle are able to purchase a new apartment at this development at a reduced percentage of its market value.

Merlion Homes is selling 11 one and two bedroom apartments on a shared equity leasehold basis. The eleven properties consisting of six one-bedroom apartments from £112,750 and five two-bedroom apartments from £151,700 are part of Crest Nicholson's larger development, Crown Point. The purchaser has an 82% share of the equity and unlike many shared equity schemes, Merlion's Assisted Purchase Scheme does not require rent to be paid on the remaining 18%.

Sally Prince, Sales and Marketing Manager added, "We are very excited to be offering local people in Reading a contemporary designed, quality apartment at an affordable price. Buyers may have the opportunity to buy the remaining share at a later date but are under no obligation to do so".

Key features include a fully fitted white Symphony kitchen with chrome fittings and dark granite worktops. There is also a single fan oven, gas hob and extractor hood. The bathroom includes a white Twyfords suite, contoured with white glazed ceramic tiles.

The level of security is high, with audio door entry systems, and double glazed UPVC patio doors and windows help maintain energy efficiency while keeping costs down. All two-bedroom apartments benefit from on site parking.

This ideally located development close to the centre of one of the south's most thriving towns also benefits from being part of the affluent Thames Valley in addition to being within commuting distance of London, which takes only 22 minutes by train direct to Paddington, quicker than many tube journeys from the suburbs into London.

Basildon House is close to The Oracle a new £250 million shopping and leisure complex. Reading also boasts numerous shops, bars, art galleries, theatres, museums, gyms and as well as being one of the key commuter towns into London - with trains taking under half the time compared to journeys from regional cities such as Oxford or Birmingham. The city is also a major hi-tech employer at the heart of UK's Silicon Valley with Heathrow, Gatwick and the Midlands a brief journey away via the M4 and M40.

Those wishing to view an apartment should contact the selling agents, Haslams, on 0118 960 1062.
